Credit Report Errors

We cannot control the use of our credit report when credit decisions are made about us. So, we need to monitor our credit report to make sure it is as accurate as it can be. If we find inaccuracies, we need to take the necessary steps to get it corrected. Inaccuracies can cause disastrous harm to our creditworthiness when we want to secure a new credit card account, a mortgage, student loan, any other type of loan and insurance coverage. Often people do not even know there are any inaccuracies on their credit report until they try to buy a house or a new car or apply for a student loan and get turned down because the inaccuracies make them look like they would not be a good credit risk. This is why it is so very important to check your credit report regularly at annualcreditreport.com. If you then see something that is wrong. send a written dispute to Experian, Equifax and Trans Union, the main credit reporting agencies, notifying these agencies of the inaccuracies. The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires that they do an investigation of these disputes but often, the inaccuracies are still not corrected. If that happens, you should get the advice of an attorney who specializes in consumer protection and can determine whether you may need to file a lawsuit against the credit reporting agency that is continuing to report inaccurate information on your credit report. Pine Street Legal can help you deal with the inaccuracies on your credit report. Contact Nancy Kanter, Esquire at [email protected] and 215-345-9214.
