Have you ever noticed at the end of your credit report there is an inquiry section? Under this section, and according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion may furnish your credit report to third parties under the following circumstances:
- In response to a court order, 2) In accordance with your written instructions, 3) To use the information in a credit transaction, 4) To use the information for employment purposes, 5) To use the information in connection with underwriting insurance, 6) To determine eligibility for a license or other government benefit, 7) In connection with a business transaction initiated by you.
All of these are considered PERMISSIBLE PURPOSES to obtain your credit report. However, sometimes, your credit gets pulled without a permissible purpose and this is a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. So, when you check your credit report, be sure to look at the inquiry section to see if your credit report has been pulled by an entity you do not know or without a permissible purpose. If so, you may be entitled to money damages.
