What Should You Do If You Get A letter From A Debt Collector?

First off, never ignore a letter from a debt collector saying you owe money. Take a look at it and see who it is from and who it says you owe money to…The letter may say that you owe money to a company you do not recognize and if it does, the letter should also include the name of the original creditor. There should also be a notice on there that says you have 30 days to dispute the debt but that if you do not dispute it, the debt collector will assume the amount owed stated in the letter is correct. If you do not agree with the contents of this letter, you should dispute the debt and demand that all documents related to the debt they say you owe be sent to you. To best understand and protect your legal rights, contact an attorney experienced in debt collection as soon as you get the letter. Pine Street Legal has the experience you need and is available at (215) 345-9214, nkanter@pinestreetlegal.com.
